SAMSARA- THE WHEEL OF LIFE

Every moment, like a season
It turns, as it must,
From the lazy summer sunshine
Into the autumn rust.
The flaming crunch underfoot
A reminder once again
Of bygone jasmine fragrances
And caressing drops of rain.
As log fires crackling, flickering
Spray embers in the hearth
Their warm embrace a solace
To frigid nights on frosted earth.
The distant sounds of laughter
That tender breezes bring
Like faded sepia prints
Of what we once called spring.
In vain I seek to warm my hands
Over the cooling memories
That lie beside me, rancid
Like yesterday's cup of reveries
Waiting.....once again
For the green to bury the grey,
The bare branches replete afresh
When today triumphs over yesterday
