On the lonely streets
In the dark of the night
Echoes of heels clicking
In ominous delight
When the staccato notes
Warn of sinister affairs
These warm affable voices
Answer my prayers
Talking, coaxing cajoling
The soothing tones I hear
From behind me, beside me,
Comfortingly, always so near
In my anguish they touch me
With gentle murmurs of love
And drench me with felicity
Tippling down from above
Smokey baritone inflections
Hold my hand with tender care
Infusing auras of faith
To dispel my despair
As artful deceptions
Wear masks so sincere
Ever vigilant spirits
Be my aural guiding pier
When life just isn’t fair
When no one understands
It’s the quiet trusted voices
That are my true friend
